YouTube has started rolling out the “Jump Ahead” feature, which it began testing in March, to a wider audience. This AI-powered feature allows Premium subscribers to try new experimental features. Here are the details of the new feature…
“Jump Ahead” feature coming for YouTube Premium members
The new “Jump Ahead” button appears after double-tapping to skip forward in a video. This button allows you to jump directly to the spot where viewers typically skip. The button appears for a couple of seconds in the bottom right corner of the screen and disappears if you just want to skip forward 10 seconds.
When you tap the “Jump Ahead” button, a message saying, “You’re skipping a usually skipped section,” appears, and the feature is marked with the YouTube Premium badge. YouTube designed this feature using AI and viewing data to identify “the next best point.”
Initially, YouTube described this feature as “a very small experiment,” and some users were automatically enrolled in the trial. Now, the feature is being offered to a wider audience through the youtube.com/new experimental page. However, the feature is currently only visible on the mobile client. To check if the feature is available to you, go to “Settings > Try new experimental features.”
This feature is currently available only on the YouTube Android app in the US and for English videos. Additionally, it is not available for every video, with a common factor being videos with a large number of views. You need to be a YouTube Premium member to enable this experiment today, and it is planned to end on June 1st, though this period may be extended.
